Most people think of Paris as the city of romance: walking along the Seine hand in hand with the one you love; sitting in little bistros gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes whilst drinking fine French wine and dining on haute cuisine; and sharing the moments when you feast your eyes upon impressive monuments and ogle at great works of art. Well, all of that’s true and many of us have done it, so why would you ever think of ruining this by taking children to this hub of sophistication and culture? Surely children aren’t going to get it? Well actually yes they are and a trip to Paris can be an amazing experience as proved recently by one of my clients Justine. With a love of Paris and a passion for its culture, Justine was eager for her girls to share her passion and to experience the wealth of culture the city has to offer.

I have to admit, I’ve always overlooked Lisbon as a city break destination; it’s fallen foul of the big hitters like Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Rome…..the list goes on. To me Portugal was the Algarve, golf, limited culture and not really a cosmopolitan location to while away a couple of days. However, faced with 2012 being our year of travelling to new locations and, after spotting a rather cool looking apartment for rent (at a very cool looking price), the Hubby and I decided to hop on the direct TAP Portugal flight from Manchester to see what Lisbon had to offer.

My ears pricked up recently when I heard that Richard Branson’s Virgin Limited Edition collection will be opening a Kenyan safari camp in 2013. If Ulusaba, his outpost in South Africa, is anything to go by this will be a stunning place with the emphasis on great quality, service and having fun but with leaving as minimal a footprint as possible and a focus on recruiting local staff.
